Alpha Chapter of Clovia Alum Activities
2006-2007

Much has happened this past year that we can be proud of as Clovia Alums.

The alums hosted the annual Scholarship Dinner on January 21, 2007.  The weather didn’t cooperate as well as we would have liked for some of the alums to attend, but 33 girls earned GPAs of 3.3 or higher and were invited to attend.  We are proud of the high academic achievements of the girls.

On May 5th, nine girls were initiated into the Clovia Alumni Association at the annual Senior Breakfast hosted by the alumni.

A new activity of the Clovia Alum Board was providing assistance during move-in day.  The alums had the opportunity to meet the girls and their families and provided refreshments to all attending.

The Risk Management Plan was implemented with the start of the 2007 fall semester.

A standing house improvement fund committee was formed to oversee future maintenance and improvement projects for the house following the renovations for the 75th Anniversary Celebration.  The committee consists of representatives from the Kansas 4-H Foundation, Alums and Active members.  Maintenance and improvement projects are prioritized.  The housemother’s apartment was recently updated.

Parent/alum relations have been a priority this past year.  An alum board member has met with the Clovia Parent’s Association Officers, and alum board members attended the Clovia Parent Club Fall meeting.  The history and traditions of Clovia were presented by Nancy Rezac. The alum’s Christmas gift to the house assisted the Parent’s Club in purchasing new furniture for the basement recreation room.

Sue Henke reviewed past Clovia documents and compiled an Alpha of Clovia Alumni Policy Handbook.  The older records were placed in a new Alpha of Clovia archive file in the Kansas State University Hale Library.

Cathy Wacker, an Alpha Alum and Web designer is updating the Clovia Web site.  The alum Web site can still be accessed from www.alphaofclovia.org, which is the domain the alums purchased for the house.  The Alpha Alums purchased a domain for the National Association of Clovia (www.clovia.org). She reports that even after she finishes making the changes to the alum site, it will always be accessed through the house site, so that will not change. There will always be a tab on their site for alumni.

The annual homecoming brunch and meeting were held October 27.

Alums assisted the alum advisors with sponsoring one snack during finals week each semester.  The alums provided fruit pizzas for the Spring semester final-week study break, and last December the girls were treated with cookies they got to decorate themselves.  A good time was enjoyed by all participating.

As you can see, it has been a full year of activities.  On behalf of the Alpha Alumni, I would like to thank each of you for being a part of our special sisterhood.

Respectfully submitted by,
Ann Sparke,
Alpha of Clovia Alumni Board President
