Alpha Chapter of Clovia Alum Activities
2005-2006

Now only memories linger from the celebration of Clovia's 75th Anniversary. But the time for "Reflection" during that weekend will long be remembered.  Clovia’s 75th Anniversary was celebrated March 25-26, 2006.

It was our honor to have two founding members in attendance.  They were Jessie Dean Thackery from Virginia and Wilma Cook Creed from Kansas.  They didn't realize when they were looking for an economical way to attend college that the dream would live on for at least 75 more years!!

More than 350 Clovers and guests enjoyed the Celebration Banquet as they watched Clovia grow through the decades in word and song.  Sunday morning found 165 members remembering the hundred Clovias' who have gone to their eternal rest and welcoming the Alpha Seniors into the Alumni Association.

The coral, green and white Reflections Quilt netted $5,350 for the refurbishing of the house and went home with Merry Lu Pasley.  A big THANK YOU to everyone who supported this worthy project!  Your contribution did make a difference and the house looks like it had a face-lift.

For this special event, a new address booklet and an updated history booklet were available so we can keep in touch with our sisters and learn what has happened since we graduated.

Renovation Project
Because the Alpha of Clovia house was over 30 years old and it appeared that many areas within the house needs to be updated, the Alum Board voted to pursue the idea of remodeling.  The third phase was completed in time to show it off for the 75 anniversary celebration.

A standing house improvement fund committee was formed to oversee future maintenance and improvements projects for the house.

Risk Management Policy
A Risk Management Policy was created and approved by the alum board.  A contract to be signed by house members was approved by legal counsel.

Other Activities

  1. Sponsored Scholarship Dinner in which over half of the house participated.
  2. Annual Homecoming Brunch and meeting in October.
  3. With the alum advisors - sponsored one snack during finals week.  Last semester the girls were treated with cookies they got to decorate themselves.

As you can see it has been a full year of activities.  On behalf of the Alpha Alumni, I would like to thank each of you for being a part of our special sisterhood.

Respectfully submitted,
Ann J. Sparke
Alpha of Clovia Alum Chapter President
